Founded as a sole proprietorship in 1997 by Frederick Douglas, the company was incorporated as Cosmos Technologies, Inc. in the year 2000. The company has quadrupled in size since 2005.

The Cosmos Technologies service philosophy is as follows: "We implement process knowledge to assist our clients in achieving their environmental, safety, research & development, quality assurance management, and construction management objectives in a comprehensive framework, which reduces product loss, air, solid waste and wastewater pollution, and increases manufacturing, construction efficiency and overall environmental protection".
Recognition
2008 Minority Business of the Year Award, Pittsburgh PA Cosmos Technologies Incorporated won the 2008 Minority Business of the Year Award, presented by the Minority Business Opportunity Committee (MBOC). The MBOC is a national organization that serves as a focal point for developing partnerships with a city, county, state and federal government as well as public and private sectors to ensure economic development opportunities for women, minorities, and veterans.

Cosmos is certified by the Small Business Administration (SBA) as a Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), 8(a), and located in a Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone). Feasibility of Utilizing Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) Byproducts for Novel Material Development
Cosmos Technologies has performed environmental research in conjunction with the United States Department of Energy
(DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) to develop useful products from coal gasification waste material.
This work was conducted in collaboration with the University of Southern Illinois and Penn State University.
