Founded as a sole proprietorship in 1997 by Frederick Douglas, the company was incorporated as Cosmos Technologies, Inc. in the year 2000. The company has quadrupled in size since 2005.

Service Philosophy

The Cosmos Technologies service philosophy is as follows: "We implement process knowledge to assist our clients in achieving their environmental, safety, research & development, quality assurance management, and construction management objectives in a comprehensive framework, which reduces product loss, air, solid waste and wastewater pollution, and increases manufacturing, construction efficiency and overall environmental protection".

2008 Minority Business of the Year Award, Pittsburgh PA Cosmos Technologies Incorporated won the 2008 Minority Business of the Year Award, presented by the Minority Business Opportunity Committee (MBOC). The MBOC is a national organization that serves as a focal point for developing partnerships with a city, county, state and federal government as well as public and private sectors to ensure economic development opportunities for women, minorities, and veterans.

Cosmos was featured in the Pittsburgh Courier newspaper on January 22, 2008. The article highlighted Cosmos' impact on growing employment within the City of Pittsburgh.

Cosmos is certified by the Small Business Administration (SBA) as a Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), 8(a), and located in a Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone). Cosmos is also certified by the Pennsylvania Unified Certification Program (PAUCP) as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), and registered in the PennDOT Engineering and Construction Management System (ECMS).

Feasibility of Utilizing Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) Byproducts for Novel Material Development
Cosmos Technologies has performed environmental research in conjunction with the United States Department of Energy (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) to develop useful products from coal gasification waste material. This work was conducted in collaboration with the University of Southern Illinois and Penn State University. An article detailing the results of this study has been published and is now searchable on the NETL website.
